A square, box-like coffer tile with a thick raised frame and a stepped, recessed interior. At the bottom of the recess sits a small domed boss surrounded by a ring of petal shapes, forming a rosette. The tile is 70 x 70 mm and 14 mm deep. Coffers - sunken panels in a ceiling or vault - were used by Roman builders to decorate ceilings and reduce weight, most famously in the dome of the Pantheon in Rome. Rosettes in the centre of each coffer were a common enrichment and reappear in Renaissance and Neoclassical ceilings. Tile several together to form a coffered ceiling for a model building or diorama, use one as a small display tray or wall panel, or paint it as a gilded ceiling sample. Print tips: one solid piece.
